Showcasing Opportunities to Teacher Candidates
THE SEQUENCE 6 OPPORTUNITY FAIR REVEALS RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS
Just as School of Education students are invested in bettering the local Chicago community, so too is the community invested in bettering students. Through the School of Education’s Cultural Institutions in Teacher Education (CITE) partnership, students in the Teaching, Learning, and Leading with Schools & Communities teacher preparation program can have hands-on learning experiences with six local partnerships, aiding teacher candidates in their development of the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions they will need to make a positive impact on their future students, schools, and communities.
Students speak directly with representatives of six local cultural institutions to learn more about the resources available to them as future educators.

One opportunity for teacher candidates to engage with these local partners–Adler Planetarium, Chicago Children’s Museum, Chicago History Museum, The Field Museum, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, and Shedd Aquarium–comes from the School of Education’s Sequence 6 Opportunity Fair. Here, students are invited to speak with CITE partner representatives to learn about the various institutions’ available tools and resources for teachers and communities.
Because of Loyola’s CITE partnership, teacher candidates have an incredibly advantageous connection with cultural institutions that will undoubtedly benefit their future classrooms as they can integrate a variety of exciting resources into instruction and learning experiences. According to one student attendee, “I was able to understand just how many resources these institutions have to help educators. I now feel more prepared to visit a website or reach out to an institution with confidence knowing that they have the support to engage in inquiry-based learning.” Through the opportunity fair and the CITE partnership, students expand their perspectives on the incredible places where teaching and learning can take place, and they will one day pass these very opportunities onto students of their own.

Local museums and other informal learning institutions – including their education staff, collections, programming and pedagogical approaches – have been integrated as mutually beneficial partners in the Teaching, Learning and Leading with Schools & Communities (TLLSC) initial teacher preparation program.
